Session 2

Thanks for your comments last week.  Here are this week's questions.

1. In Matthew 1:21 it says that Mary's baby will have the name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins.  How would you respond to someone who said that they don't need Jesus for salvation and that just being a good person is good enough?

2.  In our tradition, some will say that we underemphasize the role of the Holy Spirit.  For example, in some churches, you have to be able to speak in tongues to be considered a Christian.  Do you think the gift of tongues is still active in our world today?  If so, how?  Have you seen anyone using the gift of tongues?  How might the gift of tongues help the church and Christians today?

  2. 1. I would tell someone that we can never be good enough on our own, we are sinful from birth, and we need Jesus to save us because only his perfectness can save us and give us eternal life. If they said that they thought that just being a good person is good enough I would tell them that everyone is sinful and we can't help it, so Jesus died for us to take our place so that we wouldn't have to spend eternity in hell.
    2. The gift of tongues is definitely still active in our world today. People who use their talent of being able to speak different languages helps them spread God's word to people in other countries who might not hear about Jesus otherwise. People who go on mission trips can not only show God's love by their actions, but can also use their gift of speaking in tongues to tell people about God's love for them.

  3. 1. I would say that being a good person is great, but it's not good enough. No matter what, we are all born into a sinful world and no one is perfect even if you think so. Jesus is the only perfect being in this world and we need him in order to have salvation and spend eternity in heaven.
    2. I think the gift of tongues is still active today. When someone uses their gift by speaking in a foreign language, it helps them communicate with foreign people and helps them tell non-Christians about God. It definitely will help to expand the church in other countries where the gospel might be illegal.

  4. If someone thinks that he/she is just good enough to get to heaven they are very wrong, the only way to heaven is believing that Jesus Christ died for us that we can live with him.

I think that the gift of tongues is still around today, people can use it to convert people to Christianity and to teach them about Jesus.

  5. 1. Nobody is good enough on their own. Jesus is the one and only way to heaven

    2. The gift of tongues is still around. We sometimes see people in other countries speaking different languages so people can understand.
